I get report from Mats Olsson for their fantastic fishing in lake Vänern.

"Hi Mika

Yesterday was new years eve, and whether report looked great for first time in many weeks.

Me and fishing mate Jonas Bergqvist decided to spend a short day on lake Vänern before celebrating the new year in the evening.

Morning was pretty cold with minus 6 degrees, but when sun came up it became a really nice day.
Fishing was alright to, and before breaking up at around 13.00 we had caught 3 Trout up to 5 kg and one Salmon of 9,88kg. We also missed two fishes.

All fishes where of course caught using baitfish in VK baitholder. The salmon took a baitholder Swedish flag chrome with 20gr lead in surface.
As I see now the salmon of 9,88 kg was pretty close to the winner fish of the competition, but that is life.
It was a fantastic fish caught in a beautiful day on lake Vänern. Great finish of fishing year 2011.

Finnish Lake Salmon Fish Championship 2011 Antti Haikka and Timo Ikola won this year competition for this beauty salmon. Fish weight 5.290 g and it took VK-bait holder color UV pink stripe. This is third victory in this competition for VK-Bait holder users. Hattrick!! VK Congratulates. By the way VK- manufacturer Vesa and his team has only who took two fish in this competition and his team result was 4th. 126 boat was compeed in this two day competition this year.

This autumn has been so busy that I really have not had the time to update our blog on all the fishing reports and pictures that we have received, but below are the best catches the last month using VK-Bait holders. I have received a lot of pictures and short reports of catches of big salmon and trout caught using VK-Products fishing equipment. Would just like to say thank you, and congratulations on landing these big fish!

Another VK-Victory Finnish Championship

Last weekend Team Kuksijat 1 (Jarmo and Jari Suvanto) won the Finnish Lake Salmon Fish Championships. They were using VK-baitholders and on the first day they caught two really nice fish. The total weight was 6.719g and they caught both fish on original size VK baitholders. Their trout weighed 4.504 kg and was the biggest fish caught in the competition.

143 boats started this big two day competition in Lake Päijänne. In the three boat team competition we took 5th place again like last year. One of our three boat team member caught a really nice trout. The fishing was however a little difficult. Our own result was a little poor, we caught many pike, lost one trout and unfortunately had many damaged baits due to fish baits.

This win was fantastic, it was the 4th Finnish Championship Victory for VK-Baitholders in three seasons on the market. The older victories were the Inari Finnish Trolling Championship in 2008, the Helsinki Sea Salmon Trolling Finnish championship in 2008 and the Finnish Lake Salmon Fishing Championship in Lake Päijänne in 2009. In 2009 VK users won the European Championship in Helsinki which was a sea salmon competition. Also in these three years VK-users have won a lot of other different victories in Finland, Sweden and Norway.

I'm sending you a little report from this year's trolling competition; Storsjødreggen on Storsjøen, Norway, which I attended 29-30.6. I had a fantastic fishing for trout there with the VK-bait. I won the competition with the largest trout at 7080 grams, a fairly big and beautiful trout! I won the trolling competition overall, with all 16410 grams of fish .. All trout were caught on VK bait, and I think this is a great baitholder that I have fished extremely well with this year. I also won the general-trolling competition at Femund in 2009 with the most kilograms fish with VK baitholder, and I will take part in the some another trollingcompetition and I'll go 100% on VK's amazing baitholders :)

We fished Vänern for four hours today in fantastic weather. The days catch was a fantastic trout that weighed 9160g that took a VK-rax UV112 disco baitholder. We also caught and released a wild salmon around 50cm that took VK-Rax chrome 700 baitholder and 2 pike that took VK-Rax gold 700 & VK-Rax Chrome 721 baitholders. All the fish were taken on the planerboard with 25-50g.

Here is another fishing report from Team Hooked. We fished and won the third leg of FK Trollspöt's club championship today. We caught and weighed in 3 salmon, but also caught a wild salmon around 70cm which was of course released again. The biggest fish we caught today was almost 7kg.The winning combination today was the VK-Rax Glow 834 baitholder behind a 20cm VK-Salmon UV 80 flasher. The other baitholders that took fish were the UV104 and the SS02.

Team Proviset in Åland

I got report from Team Proviset, Arja and Niko.
They have been fishing Åland the last 2 weeks. They had 15 salmon strikes and landed 12 of the salmon in the boat. They also lost 2 huge fish in the competition, both because the new 0,46 line broke. The twelve salmon weighed 4kg, 4.5kg, 4.5kg, 6.7kg, 7.5kg, 9.5kg, 9.5kg, 9.5kg, 10kg, 10.5kg, 13kg and 13.7kg

The recipe was small VK- baitholders in Coho Blue chrome, "Lapinkulta", Purple Black Chrome and Gold colors, with 13-15cm baitfish.

Eight of the salmon were caught behind the new 6" VK-Flasher with a 120cm long leader, Some were also caught behind the bigger original size model. The flasher colours UV, Chrome and Gold with different color tapes worked fantastic. The team had a trolling speed of 1.5-1.6 knots and they used big and slow barrel rotating with bait.

Their result in the competition was 4th and they took the 9th biggest fish.

Arja fought all of the fish and Niko was just the deckhand:-)

"Hi Mika
Here is a fishing report from us. We fished and won the second leg of FK Trollspöts club championship today. We caught and took home 4 salmon and 1 trout. The biggest fish we caught today was also the biggest fish in the competition so far and was a salmon that weighed 9720g and took a VK-Rax 742s baitholder behind a UV50s VK-Salmon flasher on the downrigger. This was also a new PB for my son Albin. We tried the new UV112 "Disco" baitholder today and it worked great and gave us 2 of the fish. The other baitholders that took fish were the SS07 and the SS01.

Idag hade vi än en gång bra fiske med löja och VK skallar och fick min tredje laxfisk över 11+ på Vänern. Den första var en öring på 11700 gram, en andra var en lax på 11700 gram. Den tredje var idag och högg en VK 737 skalle fiskad i ytan med 40 gram bly utanför Lakholmen Kristinehamn Vänern och vägde 11000 gram ,92 cm lång,omkrets 65 cm.

Den var 104 cm lång vikte var 11.150 gr och tog en watermelon uv skalle bakom en VK-salmon small 15 cm uv 30s. Jag använder bara dina produkter pga att dom är enkla att trimma och sätten att trä linan i skallarna är oändliga.

Here is a quick report and some photos of the big salmon I caught on Wednesday in Lake Vänern.
It was 104cm long and weighed 11 150g and took a water melon UV baitholder behind a 15cm VK-Salmon UV30s flasher. I only use your products because they are easy to rig for swimming and there are so many possible ways to rig for different swimming styles.

Hi Mika
Today it was a another nice day on lake Vänern.
Nice weather and fishing, it was a very short trip, When I have rigged the last rod in the water in the morning emmediatley the first fish strike
And after 1½ hour fishing it was time to pick up the rods.
I have 2 salmons 5 kg and 6,1 kg and a Trout 9,4 kg in the boat!! and put back the fourth fish a salmon 5--6 kg
And also lost two salmons tha came of during the fight when I had several fish on the rods at the same time, I was alone in the boat today!!
(that was my 1½ hours fishing trip!!)

"We had fantastic fishing on Lake Vänern last Saturday. 10 Salmon in the boat, 8 of them were "goodsize" Small baitfish "löja" in the VK- baitholders worked very well. The colors that worked best was "klunssila" and "watermelon chrome". We fished 150ft behind the boat with 40-80gr lead. The salmon we took home had a weight just over 33kg. We released 2 goodsize 61 and 70+cm. Here is a picture of the biggest salmon we caught 83cm VK-baitholder "klunssila" with 40gr lead.

I got lot of new reports at lake Vänern fishing. Finnish guys have 7 header couple week ago. They have for their 3 boat after first 2,5 days 28 good size salmon and VK Baitholders and flashers was keyword of succses.

Cameron Ross from team Hooked and Göran Andersson from team Marre have good succses last weekend for Kinnekulle competition, they also use VK baitholders and both get very good size salmons.

Today I have report from Jonas Björk who get nice result for kinnekulle competition. Congratulations.

Fourth place total in the kinnekulle competition in Sweden
Here is some about our three competitions days, Friday was a short day because the weather forecast
said very strong winds up to 12-15 m/s so we must be back at the harbour at 13:30
Because of the high wind forecast we choose a fishing place there we would have some shelter from it, only one under size salmon that day!
On Saturday we could go to the fishing area that was the plan from the beginning, and we find the fish and got six salmons
but one was a wild salmon to put back in the water so we had five salmons to the harbour 22,5 kg.
Sunday we had six salmons and trouts 31,2 kg, and first price that day for the Sundays fishing.
The VK produts Worked GREAT as always!! baitholder with (löja) and the flashers......
It was no time to take photos, the only taken photo is on my mate Filip with a Nice Trout 7,78 kg

"Hello Mika!!

Here is a short note to tell about the big salmon I caught in lake Vänern yesterday!

Pontus Lindberg and I went out from Lillängshamen, this was our first fishing trip together for salmon, and the first trip in more than half a year for Pontus due to engine problems he has been having. We put the gear in west of Prickgrund, but it looked bad on the sonar so we decided to go to some old waypoints. It looked much better there on the sounder for both bottom structure and baitfish. After about 2 hours of fishing a line released from one of the planerboard releasers, which was rigged with a large whitefish (siklöja) in a watermellon colour VK-Raksi baitholder. The fish took a fast run (about 20m) splashing around on the surface and then put up a heavy fight. On the way to the boat it became tangled with another line, but when it was closer to the boat we quickly cut away that line. When the fish approached the boat we saw that it is huge ... It made some nervous final runs before it could be netted and lifted safely onboard. Because of the rolling of the boat the scale oscillated between 11 and 13 kg, but it was 93cm long!! Back on land in the harbor we weighed it on a digital scale that showed exactly 12kg!! We used the rigging hole which is upper of the three side hole, which at slow speeds gives the baitfish rather big slow turns. This time the speed was around 2.2 to 2.4 knots. It was difficult to hold a steady speed due to the wind and waves, so I believe the löja was spinning relitavely fast.
It was really a successful fishing trip!!

I got 2 trouts aprox 4 kg ea and a NICE Salmon 10,2 kg
The salmon strike on a "Löja" in a VK baitholder in color Steenson
Fished from the planer board with 40 gram lead on the line.
This fish was the strongest of the 10+ kg salmons I have got in lake Vänern
It was a VERY long action fight!!!!

"Hello Mika!

I have caught several nice salmons last trips and special with the small VK heads. Today we had 4 fish at Vänern and we caught 3 fish on VK heads and one fish on Krippled. I had 3 VK heads on one side of boat and 3 heads Krippled on other side of boat.

Here is a picture of the salmon caught sunday 29 november on a VK head in colour Purple UV (103). The name of client that caught it is Herbert from Germany. The weight was 10022 gr. and the fight took about 55 minutes...:-) I like the small heads.

Tapsa with his 2nd Vänern salmon +4kg. It took a purple black chrome VK-baitholder at a speed of 2,5knWe went home yesterday from our Swedish trip, and now I feel a little tired, because of "jetlag":-) I want to thank all of my Swedish friends for a nice time and specially Petter "Salmonseeker", Cam and Blydonkern for absolutely fantastic fishing time in Lake Vänern. We caught 7 salmon over 60cm on this four day trip, but four of those were wild and therefore must be released. We also lost some good fish, but that is part of fishing. Our "Haukimaster" is Me this time and I caught a +5kg and a +7kg pike on my side:-(

Tomorrow I start to my short visit to Sweden, with My friend Tapsa. Last year in that same time I was fishing the fantastic Lax Cup Vättern competition with Ove & Dan from Team Extreme's who are real professionals. This Year I get the possibility to go fishing for a couple of days with Petter "Salmonseeker" Larsson to Lake Vänern and then my friend Cameron from Team Hooked has offered us the opportunity to fish with him and Norwegian Tomas "Blydonkern" Silden in the new Lorents Marin Competition. VK-Products is one of many sponsor of that competition and we made that decision because sounds that it is a good and fresh idea that a whole 100% of the registration fee used to buy smolt to be released into the lake the competition is held in. We also want to support better fishing on future in this my personal favourite lake.

I have heard there is a political situation between both Laxcup and LMC and my opinion is that is sad those 2 big competition are on the same weekend :-( If these competition had different dates then maybe we could have fished both of them, but now for a good change, I choose LMC and Vänern, without any politic reasons, just good possibility and the joy of fishing. I hope both competitions have a lot of competitors and my Finnish friends on the Laxcup take a Victory there:-D We promise to do our best in Lake Vänern;-) I come with real "Haukimaster" Hehee

Sea trout at High speed

My friend Tomi sent me a report about last Sundays 4.7kg sea trout. The fish took a VK-baitholder using the top hole rigging and adjusted to have a very slow rotation. The trolling speed was about 2,7kn. On their first trip about a week ago they lost a big +5kg trout just before netting and got some undersize trout and one brutal strike. All with VK-baitholders at hi-speed.
When the fish are near the surface try "Fastfood" that is sometimes the most powerful way to catch fish. Remember, adjust to have a slow rotation on the bait. A simple way to get a slow rotation is to change the placing of the hook so it is further down on the bait.

Hi Mika

We fished Sweden's Kållandsöträff competition November 6-8. On Friday we went to Måken and put in. Our tactic was to fish one side with plastic baits and the other side with baitfish in VK baitholders at a speed of 2.7-2.9 knots. After some hours we had contact with two fish on the baitfish and no contact yet on the plastic baits. We decided to fish with just baitfish. We fished that same place using baitfish in the same VK baitholders at that same fast speed all 3 days. We caught 5 “goodsize” fish, lost a big trout 1 meter from the net and took 5 other small fish between 50-61cm. Our tactic worked and we won the competition!

Yövesi meeting 2009

Today we had the Yövesi meeting in Lake Saimaa in Finland. The fishing was difficult and of the nineteen boats that participated only four of them caught salmon. We had a minimum size for salmon of 60cm and trout 55cm in this competition/meeting. Normally the minimum size in Yövesi is 50cm and the size under Finnish law is only 40cm for those fish! All the boats released a lot of undersize fish.

"I was in Vänern for 9 days but i could only fish 4,5 days because of the wind. I caught 10 oversize fish and 9 of them was caught on VK-rax. I had VK on the planerboards and trophy spoons on the downriggers (only one rod on each rigg). It wasn´t so good fishing these days but it went well for me. 4 of them was caught on Steenson 2 on 737 1 on Lapinkulta crome 1 on UV and the last one i dont remember.

The size of the fish in the cooler is 7,1 5,6 4,5 4,4 3,5 3,0 That was a good day =0))"

Another VK-Victory Finnish Championship

Today Team Kirri won the Finnish Lake Salmon Fish Championships. They were using VK-baitholders and on the first day they caught two really nice salmon. The total weight was 6,934g Team Kirri also came 3rd in the three boat team competition. They caught both salmon on our Gold green violet color VK baitholder.

160 boats started this big two day competition in Lake Päijänne.We caught one trout weighing 2,530g Our Result was 21st. In the three boat team competition we took 5th place.It was a really nice weekend. The fishing was a little difficult, we got many under size fish and also many broken baits.

Finnish Champions Team VK-Trolling 2

Finnish Champions Team Känkkäränkkä (Marko Suppala & Jari Kataja) Their prize was a Yamaha 9,9hp outboard motor. They also won Sunday's best team prize, Yamaha 2,5hp outboard motor.

Today they caught 2 salmon their weights were a 13.390kg & 13.590kg

Team Känkkäränkkä won today the Finnish Sea Salmon Trolling Championship. They caught 4 salmon with a total weight of 41.568kg Team Känkkäränkkä was also one of the 3 winners in the 3 boat team Competition , They 3 boat fishing team was called VK-Trolling 2
This year Helsinki Competition had absolutely fantastic success. the 3 day competition resulted in a total of 203 salmon being caught!!!!! That was the best result ever in this competition! About 80-90% of all salmon caught were on baitfish with different brands of baitheads and flashers. VK-Flashers & Baitheads users had absolutely fantastic succses on that total results. The biggest salmon in this years competition was Team Siivikkala's huge 21,287kg It was also a new competition and Finnish gulf trolling record.

8 of those was over 13kg

Tomorrow starts the big Helsinki Salmon Trolling Competition. We have 2 VK-Trolling team there. Both teams include 3 boats. The competition ends on Sunday and it is also the Finnish Sea Salmon Championship. I personally am fishing the competition with my friend Antti, on his Silver Eagle Starcabin boat. I maybe won't be able to blog because my phone has some problems, it got water in last spring in Simrishamn:-( I will get a new phone later.

Team Taavila brothers took victory in the Lake Saimaa, Yövesi Salmon King Competition. They caught a nice salmon weighing 7kg and 86 cm long. it took a fluo orange/black painted VK-baitholder on the side planer with a 50g weight. There were 70 boats that competed in the competition.

Report of 9,5kg Landlocked salmon

I got some pictures and short report today about a big salmon that was caught last weekend.
Kari caught this salmon on the surface with a 15g weight and a clear colour VK-baitholder. Kari said he used the centre hole on the baitholder and the fight took about 20 minutes.

Now we stop. We did't catch any fish here today? Later I heard about one small salmon being caught here, and Vesa only caught one small and had one strike.

In Åland it was also very quiet fishing day, but our Team member Antti caught an 11kg salmon on the new color "klunssila" VK-Baitholder. The fish took the planer with a 4g weight. Antti was using the center hole with fast midsize rotation. Speed was 2,2kn. Our other friends Team Salmomatic had a very strange experience, because they had a good salmon strike in Åland and they were fighting with that. After a few minutes into the fight the "salmon" took a huge run and almost took all the line on the Amb.7000 reel. They were fighting with that "salmon" a long time before they saw a huge seal that took the salmon and kept it in its mouth. The story ends with the line broke and the seal stole their very good size salmon and VK-Baitholder:-)))

I just got a call from Team Salmomatic (Toni & Tero) who is fishing Åland today. They just caught a salmon 10,32kg and 16,2kg on VK-Baitholders. (New Personal record) Both took big rotation swimming, color "lapinkulta" and green/blue/chrome.

Our team member Antti call, he got just +10kg salmon baitfish with VK-Baitholder.

My friends Team Fisu Taxi have the best birthday present they have a giant 125cm salmon in the boat! Exact weight is 19,280kg. Happy birthday Reijo, new personal record!!!

Team Känkkäränkkä ( Suppala and Vänskä) Took a absolutely fantastic victory in the Åland Trolling Competition!

They caught all their fish in the competition using VK-Baitholders + VK2 Flashers. They weighed in 4 salmon, 2 of them were huge 17+kg and one of them was the biggest salmon caught in the competition. (17.6kg)

This is the second time that Suppala has won the Åland competition!

I heard that one team which was using VK-Baitholders and flashers caught today a salmon weighing about 18kg and also 12,5kg & 7,5kg. They also had very good results yesterday.

I just got a call from our Team VK-Trolling Antti Rautio who caught +10kg salmon. the fish took the rod on the downrigger at 20ft deep with of course a VK baitholder. They were using a trolling speed of 2.2 knots.

I also have heard a few rumours of some big salmon.

Big Salmon from Simris

Tomi & Crew took again today a big salmon from Simris. The weather was again very difficult, because of hard wind. The fish weighed 13.2kg and was 110cm long. It took the downrigger at 35ft on a Fluo green/Fluo Yellow-Chrome VK-Baitholder with clear VK2 flasher. We were also fishing with that guy, and his boat took this week 4 big salmon, which weighed 15.3, 13.2, two weighing 11.00kg. All of those took VK-Baitholders.

We came home yesterday. Our trip was fantastic, and we enjoyed good fishing in Sweden. Our Kinnekulle competition wasn't as we had hoped for, but we are still happy for other VK users absolutely fantastic successes. We caught 3 salmon around 4kg the first day and we were in the 6th position. Unfortunately size wasn’t with us the next two days and we finished in position 28 of 127 boats.

We were unsuccessful the last two days because we chose the wrong place. The weather was also too calm & beautiful which makes fishing very difficult. Maybe next year;-)

Team Timab won the Kinnekulle Competition and they used VK-Baitholders and Flashers. Also four another teams in the top ten used VK!!! There was also 4 fish weighing over 9kg that were caught during the competition days and all 4 of them took VK baitholders, include biggest fish in whole competition, Team Hooked/Toby’s 10,95kg salmon. That was another VK-VICTORY!!

After the competition we moved on to Simrishamn and fished with our friends for a couple of days. They took a salmon weighing 15.3 kg on a VK baitholder. On our first day it was very rough weather and we tried to start fishing. After 15 minutes fishing we caught an 11 kg Salmon with VK-Baitholder. Unfortunately we needed to stop fishing then because the sea was too rough. The second day had fantastic weather, but the fish were not biting. We were the only team for our 4 boats who caught salmon. The fish once again weighed 11kg and I got to fight the fish. It was a fantastic fighter and took on its first run about 150 meters of line off the reel. That salmon took a VK-Baitholder in the UV color. VK-baitholders work very good as well in the sea, I recommend you try them.

We were fishing Simrishamn today. Our result was the same as yesterday, we caught an 11kg salmon. There were about 20 boats out, but the result was poor. We heard that only about 3 salmon were caught today! Our friends in the other boats didn’t catch anything. Tomorrow me and Tomi start our way back home. I will write a better report with pictures when we are home. Salmon took VK-raksi UV color with a 20g sinker.

Good fishing in Simrishamn

All our 4 boats got salmon today. The weights were 12.8, 11.2, 11.00 , 9.4 & 6.2kg The weather was very rough and only a few boats were out. All fish took baitfish and 3 of those took VK-Baitholder. Tomorrow we start very early in the morning. My mobile phone got water in and broke, so I can't blog online but a report will come once we get back to the cabin.

After 15 min fishing, about 11kg salmon took vk-raksi new color "Klunssila" which will be introduced shortly. Color was Gold/Limegreen with yellow top and orange nose. We took that same testing color 2 of our salmon in Kinnekulle competition.

Our friend caught today big salmon in Simris. Fish weight 15.3kg and was 120cm long. Fish took VK-Baitholder Blue/Green Chrome side with 40g lead. Tomorrow we fish with him unless the weather is too windy.
