Tomorrow we travel to Lake Vesijärvi. There is the Finninsh Trolling Championship for Pike-perch. The team which catches the biggest pike-perch wins that competition and the Finnish Championship. Teams are allowed to use a maximum of 6 rods and the competition time is 14.00-22.00.

Finnish Champions Team VK-Trolling 2

Finnish Champions Team Känkkäränkkä (Marko Suppala & Jari Kataja) Their prize was a Yamaha 9,9hp outboard motor. They also won Sunday's best team prize, Yamaha 2,5hp outboard motor.

Today they caught 2 salmon their weights were a 13.390kg & 13.590kg

Team Känkkäränkkä won today the Finnish Sea Salmon Trolling Championship. They caught 4 salmon with a total weight of 41.568kg Team Känkkäränkkä was also one of the 3 winners in the 3 boat team Competition , They 3 boat fishing team was called VK-Trolling 2
This year Helsinki Competition had absolutely fantastic success. the 3 day competition resulted in a total of 203 salmon being caught!!!!! That was the best result ever in this competition! About 80-90% of all salmon caught were on baitfish with different brands of baitheads and flashers. VK-Flashers & Baitheads users had absolutely fantastic succses on that total results. The biggest salmon in this years competition was Team Siivikkala's huge 21,287kg It was also a new competition and Finnish gulf trolling record.

Helsinki Trolling Competition 2009

Tomorrow starts the big Helsinki Salmon Trolling Competition. We have 2 VK-Trolling team there. Both teams include 3 boats. The competition ends on Sunday and it is also the Finnish Sea Salmon Championship. I personally am fishing the competition with my friend Antti, on his Silver Eagle Starcabin boat. I maybe won't be able to blog because my phone has some problems, it got water in last spring in Simrishamn:-( I will get a new phone later.

Another VK-Victory

Team Taavila brothers took victory in the Lake Saimaa, Yövesi Salmon King Competition. They caught a nice salmon weighing 7kg and 86 cm long. it took a fluo orange/black painted VK-baitholder on the side planer with a 50g weight. There were 70 boats that competed in the competition.

Porkkala today

Team PoPo Joni & Hannu caught a couple of nice salmon and one trout today in the Finnish Gulf. All the fish took VK-baitholders and biggest one took the bait with a VK2 flasher. The salmon weighed 11.7 & 8.1kg and the trout 4.3kg.

Salmon 12,5kg

Team Satunnaiset saaliit Sami sent me a picture of this salmon that they caught today outside of Kotka on the Finnish Gulf . The fish weighed 12.5kg and was 101cm long. It took a green, yellow chrome colour VK-Baitholder. . Congratulations, well done!

Report of 9,5kg Landlocked salmon

I got some pictures and short report today about a big salmon that was caught last weekend.
Kari caught this salmon on the surface with a 15g weight and a clear colour VK-baitholder. Kari said he used the centre hole on the baitholder and the fight took about 20 minutes.

Nothing today

Now we stop. We did't catch any fish here today? Later I heard about one small salmon being caught here, and Vesa only caught one small and had one strike.

In Åland it was also very quiet fishing day, but our Team member Antti caught an 11kg salmon on the new color "klunssila" VK-Baitholder. The fish took the planer with a 4g weight. Antti was using the center hole with fast midsize rotation. Speed was 2,2kn. Our other friends Team Salmomatic had a very strange experience, because they had a good salmon strike in Åland and they were fighting with that. After a few minutes into the fight the "salmon" took a huge run and almost took all the line on the Amb.7000 reel. They were fighting with that "salmon" a long time before they saw a huge seal that took the salmon and kept it in its mouth. The story ends with the line broke and the seal stole their very good size salmon and VK-Baitholder:-)))

Tomorrow I am planning to fish Porkkala, which is one of the most popular salmon trolling places in the Finnish gulf. VK Vesa is fishing tomorrow outside of Helsinki, and we are having a little competition between us. I will be blogging if something happens.

Today our friends caught a salmon around 8kg in Åland on a "Klunssila" colour VK-Baitholder .

Hot news from Åland

I just got a call from Team Salmomatic (Toni & Tero) who is fishing Åland today. They just caught a salmon 10,32kg and 16,2kg on VK-Baitholders. (New Personal record) Both took big rotation swimming, color "lapinkulta" and green/blue/chrome.

Our team member Antti call, he got just +10kg salmon baitfish with VK-Baitholder.

My friends Team Fisu Taxi have the best birthday present they have a giant 125cm salmon in the boat! Exact weight is 19,280kg. Happy birthday Reijo, new personal record!!!

Another VK Victory!! Åland

Team Känkkäränkkä ( Suppala and Vänskä) Took a absolutely fantastic victory in the Åland Trolling Competition!

They caught all their fish in the competition using VK-Baitholders + VK2 Flashers. They weighed in 4 salmon, 2 of them were huge 17+kg and one of them was the biggest salmon caught in the competition. (17.6kg)

This is the second time that Suppala has won the Åland competition!

News from Åland

I heard that one team which was using VK-Baitholders and flashers caught today a salmon weighing about 18kg and also 12,5kg & 7,5kg. They also had very good results yesterday.

I just got a call from our Team VK-Trolling Antti Rautio who caught +10kg salmon. the fish took the rod on the downrigger at 20ft deep with of course a VK baitholder. They were using a trolling speed of 2.2 knots.

I also have heard a few rumours of some big salmon.

I got call today, Finnish fisherman told he caught yesterday 9,5kg salmon, one small lake in Finland. Fish took baitfish with clear coloured VK-Baitholder. Report and pictures coming later.

"Hello Mika

I'm sending you a picture of my today's catch in Simrishamn. All fish were caught with Löja on VK Baitholder. The fish were 11.9/9.5/8.3/6.6 and 3.8 kg in weight."

I ask Martin more information for colors & rigging style and he answer:

"Hot colors have been chrome 737, 739 and SS08. I used the middle hole of the Baitholder for the rigging."

Big Salmon from Simris

Tomi & Crew took again today a big salmon from Simris. The weather was again very difficult, because of hard wind. The fish weighed 13.2kg and was 110cm long. It took the downrigger at 35ft on a Fluo green/Fluo Yellow-Chrome VK-Baitholder with clear VK2 flasher. We were also fishing with that guy, and his boat took this week 4 big salmon, which weighed 15.3, 13.2, two weighing 11.00kg. All of those took VK-Baitholders.

Sweden 2009

The biggest fish in the 2009 Kinnekulle Competition. It was caught by Team Hooked/Toby and weighed 10.95kg. Congratulations!!!

We came home yesterday. Our trip was fantastic, and we enjoyed good fishing in Sweden. Our Kinnekulle competition wasn't as we had hoped for, but we are still happy for other VK users absolutely fantastic successes. We caught 3 salmon around 4kg the first day and we were in the 6th position. Unfortunately size wasn’t with us the next two days and we finished in position 28 of 127 boats.

We were unsuccessful the last two days because we chose the wrong place. The weather was also too calm & beautiful which makes fishing very difficult. Maybe next year;-)

Team Timab won the Kinnekulle Competition and they used VK-Baitholders and Flashers. Also four another teams in the top ten used VK!!! There was also 4 fish weighing over 9kg that were caught during the competition days and all 4 of them took VK baitholders, include biggest fish in whole competition, Team Hooked/Toby’s 10,95kg salmon. That was another VK-VICTORY!!

After the competition we moved on to Simrishamn and fished with our friends for a couple of days. They took a salmon weighing 15.3 kg on a VK baitholder. On our first day it was very rough weather and we tried to start fishing. After 15 minutes fishing we caught an 11 kg Salmon with VK-Baitholder. Unfortunately we needed to stop fishing then because the sea was too rough. The second day had fantastic weather, but the fish were not biting. We were the only team for our 4 boats who caught salmon. The fish once again weighed 11kg and I got to fight the fish. It was a fantastic fighter and took on its first run about 150 meters of line off the reel. That salmon took a VK-Baitholder in the UV color. VK-baitholders work very good as well in the sea, I recommend you try them.

We were fishing Simrishamn today. Our result was the same as yesterday, we caught an 11kg salmon. There were about 20 boats out, but the result was poor. We heard that only about 3 salmon were caught today! Our friends in the other boats didn’t catch anything. Tomorrow me and Tomi start our way back home. I will write a better report with pictures when we are home. Salmon took VK-raksi UV color with a 20g sinker.

Good fishing in Simrishamn

All our 4 boats got salmon today. The weights were 12.8, 11.2, 11.00 , 9.4 & 6.2kg The weather was very rough and only a few boats were out. All fish took baitfish and 3 of those took VK-Baitholder. Tomorrow we start very early in the morning. My mobile phone got water in and broke, so I can't blog online but a report will come once we get back to the cabin.

We caught big salmon

After 15 min fishing, about 11kg salmon took vk-raksi new color "Klunssila" which will be introduced shortly. Color was Gold/Limegreen with yellow top and orange nose. We took that same testing color 2 of our salmon in Kinnekulle competition.

Our friend caught today big salmon in Simris. Fish weight 15.3kg and was 120cm long. Fish took VK-Baitholder Blue/Green Chrome side with 40g lead. Tomorrow we fish with him unless the weather is too windy.

Our day in kinnekulle was very quiet, but many vk user make fantastic results. Kinnekulle was another vk victory. Also 4 over 9kg salmon in competition comes up vk-raksi, include biggest fish in competition. Great work, congratulatios all!

We got only one about 4kg wild and one undersize. Lakakoffa and Salmonseeker caught 9+ salmon today. Both come Vk-Baitholder.

A couple of nights left before we start to our trip to the Kinnekulleträff competition. We are fishing with Röda Baron. After the competition we move on to Simrishamn for a couple of days fishing with our Finnish friends. I am excited and longing for that spring fishing, because it was many years ago when I last had the possibility to fish Sweden in the spring time. Hope the weather is good this time! See you there:-)

It is hard to have better fishing when fishing alone than I had on Saturday!
Five wild salmon over the legal size and all of them over six kilo. One of them was a monster salmon that was longer than the one meter measuring tape on the side of the boat. The biggest salmon I have ever seen with a weight of well over 12kg!! It took thirty five long minutes to land the enormous fish. It took a large VK2 popcorn flasher with the new VK chrome watermelon colour baitholder behind it at a depth of 12 meters. This same flasher and baitholder was the right recipe for today because it gave me all 5 of these wild salmon.

I also caught three other legal size salmon between 61-63cm and four other under size which I released back to the lake to be caught again another day when they are much bigger ,-)
The new "Super" UV colour also worked very well today on the planer board with 80-120g.

An interesting fact was that of the twelve salmon I caught today eight of them were wild. Hopefully something will happen soon with the rules about wild salmon in Vänern
